I can't see moving Hornqvist!!! He is the one guy that goes to the net effectively. Unless we sign Oshie.
I would move Hagelin, Kessell, and Maata if I can. Sign Dumo, Cole, and Schultz if possible. You can always trade them later.

Isn't Schultz Letang insurance? Played well enough to warrant that. Now all they need is Schultz insurance when Schultz acts as letang insurance. Insurance. |

I think the Rags are going to lock up best buds Shattenkirk and Bonino together. I just cant shake that feeling...
Will the Rags have room for that? |

Barrie would be a nice addition but I don't see COL asking the moon for him. Not everybody likes Duchene as much as I do but I'd like to see Pitt give up more and try to get Barrie and Duchene. I'd give up Hagelin, Hornqvist, Maatta, a 1st, + for Barrie and Duchene. Avs get experience, get serviceable players, a 1st rounder, Pitt gets the best players. Centers become Sid, Geno, Duchene, Sundqvist. D turns into Tanger, Dumo, Schultz, Cole, Barrie, Ruhwedel. The salaries going in and out are pretty equal as well. Maybe Pitt would need to sweeten the deal but our franchise may never have another opportunity to 3peat and contend like this. Still leaves cap room for guys like Dumo, Sheary, as long as can sign them to solid contracts and insulate with cheap depth (which contenders can always find) |

Why are we trading the guy who should have won the Conn Smythe last season, and has 45 points in 49 playoff games over the last 2 years? |

I'd rather have Trouba, he could address some of the physicality and toughness along with skill. Barrie would be great at moving the puck with speed and skill though. Can't go wrong either way. Maatta hit his apex during the parade & aftermath, time to move on. We have the great photos to relive it. He did break Anderson in the finals though, when we struggled to solve him. |

I hope they do. Both a good players, but both will get over paid and further hamper NYR cap situation moving forward. 10-12M per year for those two players is too much. |

Yes, they have a great cap situation. 23M if Klein retires. They've done a really good job of moving older, well paid guys away while aquiring young assets.
Few RFAs, but mozt of the roster is full. Looks like a team that needs a 2-3C and a top 4 defenseman and a backup goalie and is in pretty goid shape. |

7.5M They have 20M in cap space with 9 forwards, 7 d-men, and 1 goalie under contract. They need to pay Zibanejad, who's an rfa, but that's it. |

I think they end up landing Galchenyuk, and sign Shatty. |

Connor McDavid is an outstanding young talent, but I'm not sure he can overcome his GM and win a Cup there. Feels like it could be another Tavares situation, and even Snow owns Chiarelli. |

Bonino and Shatts..both very overpaid, especially Bonino with them thinking he'll be fine at 2C....he is a serious downgrade from Stepan if thats the case...this is my prediction...I dont make them very often. |

While Trouba or Barrie would be great, the Pens need Sid & Geno insurance more than Letang insurance.
Pens proved they could win without Letang this year.
There is no way the Pens could have won with either Sid or Malkin out of the lineup. Getting a 2C caliber player for the 3C spot IMO is the most important need to fill.
If Letang insurance is key, I'd rather trade Maata and Hornquist for prospects or picks and just sign Shattenkirk as a FA. Similar quality player and you get more assets out of the deal. I don't think they should do it but its better than going all in on Barrie or Trouba. |

I don't like Chia, but I also don't think he has done a terrible job. I think that Eberle trade was deft for the Oilers. They traded a guy they demoted to the 4th line in the playoffs for someone who can fill in their 3C spot and saved $3.5M in cap space.
Now Drai and McDavid can dominate as the best line in the NHL regardless of who plays the other wing for the next several years. |

Pens have the deepest forward group in the league. That is Sid and Geno insurance. Also, Sid is Geno's insurance, and Geno is Sid's insruance. With the way the Pens forwards are constructed, they could absolutely survive without one of them... (much like they did until the end of the season with Geno AND Letang) |

Dude trades assets away for way less than face value and makes terrible FA signings. |
